Yet at the same time they are concerned about losses, many hospitals and health systems give little consideration to how the performance of the physician enterprise could be strengthened. Adrienne Kirby Ph.D, FACHE
Executive Chairman and CEO, Cooper University Health Care
Dr. Kirby began her career, graduating from Rutgers University in Camden. She received her MSN from the University of Penn, and later her PhD. Her early career started as nurse manager at Virtua West Jersey, and she then moved to leadership roles at Christiana Care Health System, University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, and Hahnemann University. In 1999 she was promoted to the COO of Ambulatory Services and Programs of Excellence and COO of Virtua Vorhees Hospital, and in 2010 through 201, she briefly left New Jersey to lead Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore, part of MedStar Health. In 2012, she returned to Camden NJ, to Cooper – the hospital where she was born. Dr. Kirby has led Cooper through its transformation into a major academic health system, the development of its MD Anderson partnership, and some of its strongest years of growth. Today, Cooper health system experiences more than 1.6 million patient visits annually. Similarly, Cooper’s revenue has grown from $823 million in 2012 to more than $1.3 billion last year. She retired in June 2019 after 7 ½ years.
Across her career, she is has known to champion community health and the importance of service to the community. A Fellow in ACHE, A Phila Business Journal Power 100, a Woman of Achievement Aware, a Champion of Camden, Power 50 Business Leader in Southern NJ, and many others, HPMSNJ is proud to honor Adrienne Kirby for making a difference in the city of Camden.

This presentation will discuss the design of a next-generation Ambulatory Care Network that sustainably integrates critical system components to enhance overall competitive advantage. Potential implications of value-based payment model proliferation will also be discussed within the context of network planning.

Healthcare Administration Under Fire... Really!
What can we learn from military experiences on the front lines abroad and at home,
with a focus on healthcare operation, strategic planning, marketing, public relations,
innovation, challenges, personnel issues, and visions for the future.

Lt. Colonel Merritt Brockman, DHA, FACHE will discuss her experiences as a deployed decorated
healthcare administrator in Afghanistan.
Brockman's career as a healthcare administrator began 14 years ago upon graduating
from the United States Air Force Academy. She was competitively selected and immediately accessed into the Medical Service Corps where she held a variety of leadership positions within
the military health system. Brockman is a decorated Operation Enduring Freedom veteran, having been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service during combat operations. While deployed to rural Afghanistan, she mentored and guided over 150 medics (both American and Afghan) and completed over 200 convoys and a handful of dismounted patrols in some of the most dangerous territories in the country. After transitioning from Active Duty Service, Brockman completed a stint in the private healthcare sector before coming to Drexel University.
Brockman holds a Master's Degree in Health Administration from the University of Washington and a Doctorate in Health Administration from the Medical University of South Carolina. Additionally, she is board certified as a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives. Brockman is passionate about helping to develop and teach the next generation of healthcare leaders while showing students the wide variety of opportunities a career in health administration can provide. She is currently an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Healthcare Administration Department at Drexel College of Nursing and Health Professions and continues her military service as an Air Force Reserve Medical Service Corps Officer.
